What is SAI?

        SAI is a national women's music fraternity.  Our goals include working to spread the love and education of music.

 

What does SAI do?

        SAI sponsors or is involved in many musical events on campus, including: 

  • New Music Festival

  • Family Day, with a musicale

  • American Musicale

  • Small Ensemble Recital

  • Monthly singing at area nursing homes and care centers

  • Girl Scout Project: A day of workshops that helps area Girl Scouts earn music badges

  • String Fest: A Weekend of works shops and concerts to promote string programs in Missouri.

  • Women in Music Series: A series of performances by female composers and performers, both members and non-members, sponsored by the Epsilon Pi chapter

 

Can anyone join?

        SAI is open to any female undergrad student with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.  She must also have or be enrolled in at least one credit of college level music class.  This includes ensembles as well as appreciation classes.

 

Do I have to be a music major?

        No, there is no required major to join SAI.  We ask only for a sincere interest in music and at least one college level music class. 

 

Do you have to pay dues?

        Yes, there are dues every year.  SAI works hard to make sure that these dues are kept to a reasonable level.

 

Are there any other fees I have to pay?

        During the MIT season, there will special one time fees that are required.  These will never have to be paid again.  Some of these fees may include initiation fees, badge fees, and test fees.

 

How much of a time commitment is SAI?

        During the MIT season, the MITs will need to attend one weekly meeting, one required study hall, as well as coming to the first few minutes of the chapters regular meeting.

 

Does SAI haze?

        NO!  SAI will never haze!  Hazing is defined as any situation where the required activity makes you feel humiliated or unsafe.

 

What is a MIT?

        MIT stands for Member-In-Training.

 

As an MIT, what will I be doing?

        During your MIT season, you will be learning how a chapter of SAI operates by setting up a miniature version of the chapter.  This will involve weekly meetings as well as a musical and a service project.  This will be the time when you learn about SAI and the important aspects of our organization.

 

This sounds great! How do I get involved?

        We'd love to have you come and join us!  In order to be eligible to pledge SAI, you must attend one fall rush event.  For a list of the upcoming events, check the Current News or look at the Calendar of events.  You will then be invited to attend a required rush event the first week in January.
